I know I’m a few days late on this but I wanted to see if anything else developed out of that four-way deal. Read the rest of this entry >>
We’re 20 rounds in and it’s time for an update. With little happening around One Magic Place, we’ll look to fantasy basketball to keep us entertained. Read the rest of this entry >>
As the offseason turns to a quiet period (until the next Chris Paul rumor), one thing we’ll follow is my involvement in an eight-team league where we’re drafting NFL, MLB and NBA players all at the same time. We’ll be using the 2010 NFL season, 2011 MLB season and 2010-11 NBA season so this will help give an insight into how players are being considered for this upcoming season. The scoring is a little unique, so that should be taken into account when considering. There’s no FG percentage component – it’s .012 points per point, 0.15 per rebound, 0.2 for assists, steals and blocks and -0.2 for turnovers. Read the rest of this entry >>
Let’s get this out of the way – I do not like LeBron. In any way. I think he is easily his biggest fan and goes out of his way to bring attention to himself. Every fiber of him seems to be about showing himself off from his pre-game dusting to his chin-ups on dunks to the freaking one-hour special on where he was going. More on that special in a minute. It’s easy to be underwhelmed by the move the Magic made in the offseason. After the moves made last year, the huge moves made by other teams, Chris Duhon and Quentin Richardson were bound to underwhelm. You can read OPP and Magic Basketball for in-depth analysis of those moves. For my part, I’m worried about Duhon’s shot and Richardson’s ability to be the heavy that Barnes was. Richardson may be slightly more talented as Otis says, but the Magic have long lacked someone with attitude and it was good to have Barnes around for that, especially after he didn’t get the raise he was expecting. As always, Otis Smith says one thing while doing something completely different. That is not a bad thing as misdirection is useful in free agency. It does leave us all scratching our heads at times. Read the rest of this entry >>
After a poor showing overall by the summer league team, the Magic took the floor again against the Jazz. Daniel Orton again was invisible, with 0-for-6 shooting and only two points from the foul line. Add in three rebounds and the fact that his man scored 13 and it’s clear Orton’s just not ready at this point. Does that mean it was a blown pick? No but everyone needs to reset their expectations and remember that this is a 19-year-old raw athlete who came off the bench in his only year of college ball. To expect him to see the floor this year is a stretch. As the 29th pick, there’s not much wrong with that. I don’t know if he’ll go to the D-League, which he absolutely should, but it’s clear he’s a project. It’s dissapointing that he admits that he came to camp out of shape. If there’s one thing that worries me, now that I hear that comment, it’s his mental makeup. Will he put in the work or cash his checks? Read the rest of this entry >>
That’s a piece of Daniel Orton’s Twitter post after today’s game. I think Orton sums it up for the whole team: Read the rest of this entry >>
The summer league kicks off Monday (and can be caught on NBA TV). There are no big names on the roster this year. Orlando’s two draft picks, Daniel Orton and Stanley Robinson, figure to get good minutes. Orton won’t be able to show much offensively, unless he has hidden skills that weren’t seen at Kentucky. Expect him to be a defensive presence and clean up around the boards. For Robinson, I expect that this will be a situation to play himself onto the 15-man roster. I don’t think he’s in much danger of not making it but he’ll want to make a good impression to where it’s never a question. I do think he’ll definitely make some highlight reels with a high-flying dunk or emphatic rejection. Read the rest of this entry >>
